Two Olympus Products Receive Innovative Technology Designations from Vizient

Olympus’ QuickClip Pro Endoscopic Clip and PCF-H190DL/I Slim Colonoscope with ScopeGuide recognized with new solutions that benefit the health care industry

(CENTER VALLEY, PA) February 29, 2016 – Olympus, a global technology leader in designing and delivering innovative solutions for medical and surgical procedures, among other core businesses, announced today that it has been awarded two Innovative Technology designations from Vizient, Inc. the largest member-owned health care company in the country. The designation was based on reviews of the PCF-H190DL/I (slim colonoscope) and QuickClip ProTM (endoscopic clip) by hospital experts who attended Vizient’s Innovative Technology Expo in November.

The annual event provides medical technology suppliers the opportunity to demonstrate their product and gain direct feedback from onsite clinical experts and health care providers on the impact their products may have on improving clinical care, safety, or benefits to an organization’s care and business model.

Olympus is the leading supplier in colonoscopes, used in the 13M colonoscopies performed each year. Details on the two Olympus products awarded Vizient’s Innovative Technology Designation include:

  • QuickClip Pro: Endoscopic clipping is considered one of the most reliable methods to achieve hemostasis and the QuickClip Pro provides important advancements. The Olympus QuickClip Pro single-use hemostatic clip provides simple and reliable hemostasis for confident cessation of bleeding. QuickClip Pro features a precise rotation mechanism and innovative catheter and clip design comprised of an alloy that is 2.7 times stronger and more flexible than stainless steel. These innovations allow for smooth insertion, precise deployments without repositioning, while helping to reduce operational costs by decreasing device waste and reducing the risk of potential scope damage. The device has been tested to remain in place for at least 14 days for improved procedural outcomes.
  • PCF-H190DL/I Slim Colonoscope: PCF-H190DL/I slim colonoscope is the newest scope from Olympus to incorporate ScopeGuide®, an innovative, real-time 3D visualization technology. This technology allows the user to visualize the position and configuration of the colonoscope during insertion. Real-time visualization allows the endoscopist to see loop formations as they are occurring for quicker and more effective loop management. The improved ability for the physician to navigate the anatomy can help improve procedural efficiency and increase patient comfort during a colonoscopy. This new slim model facilitates complete colonoscopies by improving scope handling, insertability and ergonomics.

“We are very pleased to receive this recognition from Vizient for our innovative technology designed to address the Triple Aim goals of Affordable Care,” said Todd Usen, President, Olympus Medical Systems Group at Olympus Corporation of the Americas. “Improving quality of care, reducing costs and enhancing patient satisfaction are important goals that can be attained one device and procedure at a time, if we listen to the physician and nurse experience, and carefully apply our research and development toward meaningful advancements.”

“Vizient is committed to providing the members we serve with leading-edge technologies that deliver new clinical and operational benefits from what is currently available in the market today,” said Debbie Archer, director of procurement and leader of the Innovative Technology program for suppliers. “After reviewing the PCF-H190DL/I and the QuickClip Pro at our annual Innovative Expo, the hospital experts who attended agreed the products offer unique and incremental benefit over other products available on the market today.”

Vizient is the new brand identity for the organizations formerly known as VHA Inc., UHC, and Novation. Since 2003, more than 2000 new and innovative products and technologies have been submitted through the Vizient Innovative Technology program. Vizient works with member-led councils and task forces to identify and review potentially innovative products. If it is determined that a product is innovative, a contract may be awarded outside of Vizient’s competitive bid cycle.
